Magick is an Award Winner

In 2016 I entered my book Magick in The New Apple Book Awards for a couple of submissions that fit my book.  My thought was maybe I might get a nice mention, and that would be a nice thing for my debut, mind you I had no thoughts of winning anything.  As my lovely husband handsome says, you can’t win if you don’t play, so I threw my hat in the ring.  I went ahead and put a note on my calendar for the winner announcement date and waited with everyone else, which meant I went about my daily life.

Several months later a notice came, that announcements would be delayed.  It’s back on my radar.  Hey, I submitted for this!  That internal critic of mine starts mouthing off, that I wasted money in my submission, but it’s a good experience.  Let’s see who wins and check out their books! I said this to my family that same day.

The next day at lunchtime, I sit down munching and scroll through my email on my phone.  There is a message waiting for me, and it says…

Congratulations Magick is a solo medalist winner for the ebook category SciFi/Fantasy/Horror!

What?!  Gasps and tears.

Is this a joke?

I re-read it, look at the sender’s email address.  Yep, this is real!

No-one is around me except my dog, Finn.  All I can do is cry my happy tears.  How did this happen?  Inner critic – Damn her, maybe no one entered that category?  No.  I refuse to believe that.  This is a popular category, and there are a ton of books released every year by self-published authors! Wow! Just Wow. 2016 New Apple Book Awards.

I don’t want the celebration to end!

For my fans and readers who already have read Magick – want a peek at Reign, Book II? Get a Sneak Peek here. I sent this out in my newsletter this month with the preface that my editor may or may not agree to have this as the start of Reign.  I decided to take a step back and provide a little insight.  [Spoiler alert – don’t read the sneak peek if you haven’t read Magick yet.]

Enjoy! I’m working to finish up and get Reign to the editor mid-April.  I had a major plot change, and I’m so excited, because I didn’t see it coming, but I really like it and think you will too.
